May 4th – Angels Stink, Mariners Take the Series.

Robinson Cano, Ben Gamel

Not gonna lie though, before the 8th inning yesterday I was just thinking to myself “can we just beat the Angels one time this year?”… They’ve had huge 9th inning comebacks, they beat James Paxton and they erased a four run lead yesterday like it was no big deal. Then the Mariners comeback in the 8th yesterday and win big today to take the series.

They got off to another quick start with the red hot Cano + Cruz duo continuing to be ridiculous and smash everything thrown at them. Cano hustled from first on a Cruz double to give them the early lead 1-0

Miranda’s only rough spot was the 2nd inning. His pitch count was high after the 1st and in the 2nd he allowed a two out double by Graterol made it 2-1 in the 2nd . His pitch count was in the 40’s after that inning, but after that inning he made it from the 3rd to the 7th no problem. He had a final line of 7 innings, 2 runs, 2 walk and 5 strikeouts. Getting starts like that from Miranda will be huge with Hernandez out.

In the 3rd, The Mariners continue to prove that they don’t care if there’s two outs in an inning. You better get that last out cause they’ll string together two out hits that are brutal for pitchers. They added three runs with two outs and took the lead 4-2 and then as the game went on they added more runs and then added more runs and then added more runs.

But today was about a monster game from Ben Gamel. He went 3 for 3 with 2 walks, 2 RBI’s and 3 runs. And just to have the camera show off his hair flowing in slow mo he makes a diving catch in the 9th. This dude is a STUD and HE’S FILLING IN FOR THE MARINERS OTHER YOUNG STUD OUTFIELDER WHO’S ON THE DL. He’s had a great stretch since being called up with game winning hits and big at bats. Having someone on base for Cano and Cruz regularly is good news going forward too.

Onto the Rangers.

Final Score: 100-3 Mariners.
